NAGAON: In an operation targeting counterfeit Indian currency, local police in Assam's Nagaon have detained a man, his wife, and two other individuals, according to officials on Saturday.

Preliminary reports originating from Nagaon indicate that the incident occurred in Simaluguri village near Kampur, falling within the jurisdiction of Kachua Police Station.

Upon receiving information about a suspected counterfeit currency printing and distribution operation in the area, law enforcement conducted a raid, resulting in the detention of the couple and two other suspects.

During the operation, the authorities seized numerous bundles of cash, suspected to be counterfeit currency notes, as well as a counterfeit currency printing machine.

Officials disclosed that the detained husband and wife are originally from the neighboring state of Nagaland, and they have yet to release the names of all the accused.

Additionally, it was mentioned that, aside from the couple, the raiding team apprehended two more individuals at the scene, and they are all presently held for questioning concerning the matter.

Further details regarding the total amount confiscated and the identities of the detained individuals remain pending.

In a significant operation, the Guwahati Crime Branch apprehended two female drug peddlers in the Rehabari area. The arrest took place on a Wednesday, and the operation unfolded within the jurisdiction of Paltan Bazar Police Station. These drug dealers were attempting to sell their illicit substances in the vicinity of a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM. During the operation, the Crime Branch seized 145 vials containing illicit drugs. Additionally, they discovered 20 counterfeit Indian currency notes, each with a denomination of 500, and confiscated four mobile phones from the possession of the suspects.

The individuals involved in this illicit activity have been identified as Sarifa Khatun and Sajida Begum. They are currently undergoing intensive interrogation at the Paltan Bazar Police Station. The previous evening, the Special Task Force (STF) Assam received confidential information that led to a raid at the Comfort Home Hotel, located near Maharshi Vidya Mandir School in Lalmati, Borsojai, Jagaran Path, under the jurisdiction of Basistha Police Station. During this operation, one individual was taken into custody in connection with the incident.
